🚴‍♀️ Pedaling Through Time: A Cycling Adventure in the Cotswolds

Cycling in the Cotswolds
Stone monument under a blue sky in the Cotswolds

Golden hills. Quiet lanes. Villages frozen in time. The Cotswolds offer one of the most scenic and peaceful cycling experiences in England—and we soaked up every glorious mile from the saddle of our Cobalt Warhawk gravel bikes. With one of our group riding an e-bike, the journey was not only beautiful, but effortlessly inclusive.

Over four unforgettable days, we explored charming towns like Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, and Stratford-upon-Avon, while winding our way through some of England’s most iconic countryside. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or new to touring, this trip blends history, scenery, and adventure with just the right amount of challenge.

🗺️ 4-Day Cotswolds Cycling Itinerary

Day 1: Warm-Up Ride Along the Thames – Richmond & Twickenham

We kicked things off in London’s green belt, riding a relaxed loop through the leafy suburbs of Richmond and Twickenham. With the River Thames as our guide, we explored riverside trails, historic parks, and quaint neighborhoods. This was a great shakedown ride to dial in the bikes and stretch our legs before heading to the countryside.

đźš´ Highlights:

  • Riverside ride from Richmond to Teddington Lock
  • Lunch stop at a Twickenham cafĂ© for a pint and a snack
  • Royal Deer Park in Richmond and a view of Henry the VIII's Hampton Court

Pro Tip: A gravel bike like the Warhawk was perfectly suited ot the mix of paved paths and rougher riverside trails.

Day 2: Stow-on-the-Wold → Bourton-on-the-Water

After a 2 hour train ride to Morten in Marsh, the Cotswolds proper began today with a loop ride from Stow-on-the-Wold to Bourton-on-the-Water, often called the “Venice of the Cotswolds” thanks to its charming low bridges and river that runs through town. Quiet country roads connected us with storybook scenes at every turn.

đźš´ Highlights:

  • Antique hunting and a hearty breakfast in Stow
  • Ice cream and riverside walks in Bourton
  • Rolling climbs and sweeping views across open pastures

Fun Fact: Cobalt’s Warhawk handled the steeper climbs with grace, and the group e-bike made sure no one was left behind. Everyone got to enjoy the view and the ride.

Day 3: Ride to Stratford-upon-Avon

Today’s goal: Shakespeare’s birthplace. We rode through quiet lanes, rolling fields, and sleepy hamlets to reach Stratford-upon-Avon, where literature and architecture meet. The town is a vibrant blend of historic charm and modern riverside cafés.

Day 4: Sudeley Castle & Broadway Tower

Our final day was a scenic and cultural highlight. First stop: Sudeley Castle, a Tudor masterpiece nestled in blooming gardens. Then, a climb to Broadway Tower, the second-highest point in the Cotswolds, offering panoramic views across 16 counties.

đźš´ Highlights:

  • Touring the castle grounds and Queen Katherine Parr’s tomb
  • Climb to Broadway Tower for a picnic with a view
  • Final group descent into Chipping Campden, legs tired but smiling
Climb Note: The e-bike truly shined today, helping our less experienced rider tackle the Tower climb without stress—and with plenty of smiles.

Why the Cobalt Warhawk is Perfect for the Cotswolds

This trip cemented our love for the Cobalt Warhawk. With a lightweight frame, wide tires, and gravel-ready geometry, it was built for exactly this kind of ride—part road, part off-road, all adventure. Its responsive handling made descents feel effortless, while the stable frame gave confidence on looser paths and rural shortcuts.

Final Thoughts

Cycling through the Cotswolds is more than just a ride—it’s a journey back in time. From riverside paths in Richmond to Shakespeare’s hometown, from ancient castles to sweeping vistas, every day brought new sights, flavors, and friendships.

And the best part? With the right bike and the right crew (yes, even with mixed fitness levels), this kind of trip is totally doable—and absolutely unforgettable.

Ready to ride the Cotswolds? Pack your bike, and don’t forget your camera—the adventure of a lifetime is just a pedal stroke away.
