I know the Reverb AXS dropper post has been out for a few years. I also know it's one of the best dropper posts and one of the best upgrades to ANY bike. So much so that I thought it was worth spending a little time to share my experience with the SRAM AXS dropper- both the Reverb MTB and the XPLR gravel/road dropper. that's right, a road dropper.
SRAM has long been synonymous with cutting-edge cycling technology, and their AXS Reverb and XPLR dropper post duo solidifies their reputation. Designed to meet the demands of both mountain and gravel riders, this innovative pairing offers unparalleled performance, versatility, and reliability across diverse terrain.
The SRAM AXS Reverb, with its wireless electronic actuation system, represents a paradigm shift in dropper post technology. By eliminating cumbersome cables and levers, SRAM has streamlined the riding experience, allowing cyclists to make precise saddle height adjustments with the simple push of a button. Whether tackling technical descents or steep climbs, riders can effortlessly transition between riding positions, optimizing comfort and control.
What sets the AXS Reverb apart is its exceptional precision, simplicity, and speed. Riders can fine-tune saddle height with millimeter accuracy, ensuring optimal positioning for maximum efficiency and power transfer as the terrain dictates. This level of control is invaluable on challenging terrain, where split-second adjustments can make the difference between a successful line choice and a costly mistake.
In addition to its precision and convenience, the AXS Reverb boasts impressive reliability. The hydraulic internals are engineered to withstand the rigors of off-road riding, delivering consistent performance in all conditions. Not to mention, the wireless system offers extended battery life, ensuring uninterrupted usage during long rides. It also serve as a great source for a back up battery if your rear derailuer runs out of juice mid-ride.
Complementing the AXS Reverb is the SRAM XPLR dropper post, tailored specifically for gravel riding. While gravel cyclists may not encounter the same technical descents as their mountain biking counterparts, the ability to adjust saddle height on variable terrain is equally crucial. The XPLR dropper post provides this versatility, allowing riders to maintain optimal body positioning and control on gravel roads, rough trails, and everything in between. Being able to lower your center of gravity on gravel descents is a game changer. There's also the aero benefit of a lower profile. I find that I use the dropper on every descent and even going into tight turns to improve stability. the reaction time is so fast and easy with the wireless controller a quick button push and boom- its back where yo need it.
The other benefit of the XPLR is the suspension or ActiveRide system. SRAM created an all-new design for this dropper post with lightweight air-only internals featuring built-in compliance they call ActiveRide™. It’s like travel for your saddle. Enabled by SRAM AXS technology, Reverb AXS XPLR is part of the ultimate personalized cockpit. By setting the seat height just below full extension, riders have 15mm of suspension to take the edge off any gravel road.
The other benefit of having a wireless dropper is the simplicity of set up. The side benefit is the ease of moving the dropper between bikes, saving riders money if they have multiple or similar bikes in the garage- you can't ride them all at the same time. It works really well. I swapped my dropper between my hard tail and full squish dropper for a few years and do the same with my road and gravel bike.
Together, the SRAM AXS Reverb and XPLR dropper post form a dynamic duo that caters to the needs of riders across disciplines. Whether shredding singletrack on the mountain or exploring backcountry gravel routes, cyclists can count on SRAM's innovative technology to deliver unmatched performance, reliability, and versatility. With the AXS Reverb and XPLR dropper post, SRAM has once again raised the bar for dropper post excellence, reaffirming their status as pioneers in the world of cycling innovation.
